I finally found me a puppy.

I waited until the shelter was able to release her. I need help naming her and I chose to let  my readers offer their input.  Let me tell you a little about her first.

I am going to change that because I want the opportunity to name her myself.

I waited about 4 weeks for her to be released.  I think I was just in time because they were on the television this morning.

Hello animal lovers.  Today was a very good day for me for many reasons, but on top of all that I went puppy shopping.  I am so happy about my day that I have to share it with you.  It started out like any other day.  I went to sleep last night thinking I wanted a puppy companion.  I have so many things to consider about dog ownership.

I know puppies can be a handful, but I am preparing myself for the love they give back.  I have questions and many concerns before I make my decision.   I wonder what breed is good for me?  I do not want a dog  that grows big?    I want a dog that does not require a lot of attention? Can anyone give me some advice on what other factors should I consider?   This is my second puppy in my adult life so I want to consider all the concerns.  I want to know which dog breed has what medical issues?  Should I make sure the dog is spayed/neutered and what problems will I have if he is not?  Are all dogs aggressive towards other dogs?

The Kardashian Christmas was filled with a questionable present.  Okay I tried to resist the Kardashian references in my post, but their latest move infringes on a topic I covered in another post.  The Kardahians have suffered constant ridicule of the media and the public.  I agree some of the ridicule has been warranted but a small percentage of it has to do with the family’s meteoric rise to fame.

At one time anyone associated with the Kardahians reaped the benefits of gold shavings.  The times have changed, now the mere mention of anything Kardashian brings public critiques or a media bashing.  A perfect example of this is Kris Humphries.  He was recently booed at a  New Jersey nets game because he was briefly associated with the family.

The Kris Humphries story somewhat confused me because I thought he was doing all he could to disassociate himself from the fashion conglomerate.  I agree he was probably not an innocent victim, but his life was very different until he was placed into the spotlight by the Kardashian family.

I will not add to the media bashing or make any judgements because I do not know all the circumstances surrounding any of the family’s business decisions, but I will speak on one decision that affects puppies and Christmas presents.

I wrote a post advising people to not make Christmas puppies the object of their Christmas nostalgia.  Read why Christmas puppies are bad.  The Karsashian Christmas included some ill advised gifts.  By now I think you have figured out the family added puppies to their fashion empire.  I have several questions about this request for a seemingly selfish present.  The youngest sisters Kendall and Kylie were the recipients of two very cute chocolate lab puppies.

My first question is probably what everybody is wondering; Are the puppies part of their materialism? Is this an attempt to interject some cute puppies into a family that has been publicly ridiculed in hopes that the puppies will make the family look more like-able?  I do not know what the girl’s true intentions were, but I know they could have gotten puppies any time of the year.  Why did they choose Christmas?  The family either does not care what the public thinks or they are more concerned about pleasing the Kardahians.  I have no problem with them pleasing their own personal needs or wants, but when they make these kind of decisions they open themselves up for more public critiques.

Materialism?

I do not believe the young Kardahian sisters will clean up after the puppies or play with them on a regular basis.  The puppies will more than likely live on their massive compound or they will reside in a glamorous boarding house built to entertain them.   The Kardashian sisters will not be able to visit normal parks so the puppies will be exposed to the rest of the posh dogs.

I had a question about the puppies being used as part of their fashion empire, but they answered that question by naming the puppies Louis and Vuitton.  Now every time the puppies are exposed to the public; most people will think of the luxurious designer.  I have even more questions about this move; Was this a clever business decision and a marketing ploy?  The puppies will probably be endorsers for the name plate.  I ask everyone do you think this move is a good exposure for animals?  The bad thing is the puppies will never know normal life; their pictures will be on many magazines and they will not be allowed to run loose like puppies.  I am sure their moves will be monitored.

I have to admit I watched the Kardashian reality show, but I was appalled at some of the things they did on television.  I am actually saddened that the family played the hand they were dealt only to see their fame slowly deteriorate.

A movie studio has a lot of issues to consider, but actor management can put a dent in the movie budget.  The next summer’s blockbuster takes years to produce.  I do not know all the steps in movie making, but I  do know that most movies start with an idea or script.  The directors are given a budget to produce the movie and actor management adds to the cost of production.  The problem arises when the directors are confronted with “Prima donna” actors with ridiculous requests.

It is no doubt Jennifer Lopez is one of the best actors, dancers, singers, and now judges, but her actor management is a challenge for directors.  Jennifer requires everything in her dressing room to be white including her napkins, towels, and table cloths.  I am sure she has given directors a headache with her

requests.  To make matters worse she requires her coffee to be stirred counter-clockwise.  I do not know how she would be able to tell the difference.  Jennifer is just one of the stars with demands.  Actors go even further sometime by using small dogs as accessories for the red carpet.  Read why celebrities use small dogs as accessories. 

I know that everybody has heard of the mega action star Will Smith‘s latest request for on set luxury.  Will is another triple threat actor with many talents. He is a rapper, actor, television producer, but there is no reason he should request a mega bus for his dressing room. He requested a World class bus for a movie he starred in.  I am not being critical of the request, but I am not sure if this opulence is needed in today’s economy.  It is obvious that the directors have considered actor management as a factor in movie producing.

Dogs make actor management a lot easier for the movie directors.  The things a dog might require is gourmet food or a famous trainer to keep the dog focused.    We never hear about a dog or cat requiring some outrageous gifts to show up everyday.  I am sure some dog trainers have requested gifts for their dog stars, but I do not believe the dog would not act without luxurious opulence.  Some women see Will Smith as a desirable guy.  I wonder if these same women would have a problem with Will having a small dog.  Read about men are smart to have a small dog.

We find it silly when we hear about a dog trainer/owner making ridiculous requests for their dog in order for him to be happy.  I highly doubt any such request can rival a human actor’s request.  Kim Kardashian and Brandy are rumored to be part of the cast in a upcoming Tyler Perry movie.  I would love to hear about the request made on the  set if the movie makes it to the box office.  I am sure Tyler will consider actor management as part of his movie budget.  Tyler has made many movies and television shows.  He is probably one of the few directors that lets actor management influence his movie making.  Dog trainers are highly skilled at their trade.  I am sure keeping a dog focused and complying with the animal work laws can be challenging.  We all saw Marley tear up his set, but it was planned.  See how Marley tore up the stage.

Ways we influence actor management

The public response affects the way actors carrying themselves in a public forum.  We put actors on this high mantle and we make them think acting is more than what it is, acting.  An actor is a professional person looked to by some kids for a moral compass.  However, we can not expect them to not be more than human when they make a mess of their lives.

It is unfortunate that some celebrities start to believe their own hype and spiral out of control.  The latest celebrities to cause damage to their acting careers join a long line of actors.

We all witnessed what Lindsay Lohanhas done to her career; I will not judge her but I am concerned with how she has handled fame.   She has been in and out of jail, visited many rehab centers, violated parole.  It seemed she has done everything she could do so maybe she is getting her life back on track.

Of course everybody is aware of Mel Gibson‘s indiscretions in a public forum.  He is alleged to have had many drunken incidents.  He has been arrested by the police, he has made comments viewed as insensitive to some people.  It is too bad  because I enjoy Mel’s movies.

My last example is probably the most highly publicized career bust in the most recent history.  I am talking about Charlie Sheen.  He went on a tour where he proclaimed to control of his career.  He was accused of drunkenness, derange behavior, and he let his on stage acting career cross with his real life.  I like Charlie Sheen and I know Ashton Kutcher has not been on Two and a Half Men long but I still watch the sitcom reruns just to see Charlie.  He maybe a little different to us, but he is a good actor.  How would you control actor management?

1. Question:  Can you name a 4 leg celebrity?

Answer:  To answer this question I would have to give you my definition of a 4 leg celebrity.  I am going to give you the “low down” on 4 leg celebrities first.  A 4 leg celebrity is not defined by money or superficial means.  To put it in simpler terms, a four leg celebrity is any animal that has four legs and the owners enjoy having him in their lives.  It maybe expensive to maintain a four leg celebrity, but your life is enriched by laughter.  By now you are saying my pet meets all those requirements so it must be a four leg celebrity.   You would be correct in your conclusion.

2. Question:  Can you list examples of 4 leg celebrities?

Answer:  This is my opinion of 4 leg celebrities but you are free to add yours in the comments, but I will list some of the more common names readers have suggested.  Rin Tin was probably the original 4 leg celebrity, Lassie definitely qualifies  as a 4 leg celebrity.  Read about Lassie.  Like I said before all four leg animals qualify, so Seabiscuit represents the equestrian species.  Read the story of Seabiscuit.  We can even go into animated characters, Pepe Le Pew is a fine example of animation made love able.  Read about Skunks.  I can not forget the everyday 4 leg celebrities.  Add yours here!!  My friend has a boxer mix named Apollo.  You can see Apollo in my gallery on the front page.

Answer:   I am a little surprised by this question because Beethoven meets all the four leg celebrity criterion and he makes kids laugh and smile.  This is the most famous St. Bernard of all times.  I learned that it took over 40 dogs to make Beethoven’s 2.

5.  Question:  Would you choose a man over a dog?

Answer:  Well this is a question of preference.  I personally think both dog and human relationships are important.  It depends on the person answering this question because I know people who prefer a dog companion and I know people who dislike dogs.   You can read more on this subject here.

Every year on some holidays pet owners think it would be “cool” to adopt a pet to carry on the traditions made popular by folklore.  It is not only cruel to the pet, but not progressive in the adoption efforts.  An adoption agency is in the business of matching pets with families that will properly care for the animal.

You are defeating those efforts if you let Christmas puppies  loose on the streets and he is found by another Humane Society approved adoption agency.

Returning your Christmas puppies to an approved shelter  is actually better for the animal.  He could be ran over by a motor vehicle, attacked by an animal of prey, eat food that is detrimental to his health.  The best option is not to adopt an animal if you are unsure how he fits into your family.

Halloween folklore makes it popular to own a black cat or to make him part of the holiday festivities.  Every year black cats are very popular on Halloween.  Some people think  this color of cat is a tool to be used for their needs.

You are harming the cat and possible putting the cat in danger, because some people kill cats for what ever reason.  For as long as I can remember black cats have represented bad luck.

I do not know how lucky they are, but the cat is a life worthy of being saved.  Many of us have never experienced what it feels like to be an orphan.  A cat that goes from home to home is not only an orphan, he is in a worse condition because he can not communicate to its owners.

Right now we are celebrating Christmas and this is another popular time of year for Christmas puppies adoption.  It has become pretty popular to receive  Christmas puppies under the tree.  Puppies are cute no matter what time of year, but I have to admit Christmas puppies are cute.

I think it is a good gift for the right person, but the person that receives Christmas puppies as a gift has to be responsible enough to care for the animal.  When all the excitement goes away I want to know how does the person feel about the puppy then.

I visit pet shelters on a regular basis to verify that the dogs are being treated properly.  I would hate to see people return their Christmas puppies ten days later because they realized the puppy did not fit into their family.

I would rather people return their Christmas puppies to a pet shelter than release them to defend for themselves.  Nobody wins when puppies are harmed or bred uncontrollably.

Puppy Mills

Puppies are being raised like cattle by some so-called “businesses”.  They put a pretty face on a business that is out of control and adding to the cruelty of animals.  These businesses do not care about maintaining the breed of the animal; they see the puppies as a potential profit and the parents are usually killed. These puppies have been given a name or category.

They are considered Christmas puppies or Christmas gifts.  A puppy is a living soul and he should not be used to satisfy anyone’s wants.  If you want to adopt a puppy during this holiday period make sure you are prepared for the challenges a puppy can present.  If you need advice on puppies please visit Dr. Jon or Petfinder  to understand a puppy.

Breed Specific

This is the most important factor to consider before adopting a pet.  Every dog breed has a different character.  Some breeds are more docile than others.  The reason you need to know this ahead of time is because if your family does not have the time to cater to the dog then everyone will be unhappy.  Read how Christmas puppies make many couples deal with this statement. I had one dog that I raised from a puppy.  He was a rottweiler and the dog was so scared and shy at first he ran under the truck and I could not reach him.  He got more comfortable but he hated being left alone so I played with him in the house.  I reached my threshold for tolerance one night when he woke me up at 3:00am and I went outside and I noticed that the dog was entangled in his leash and I had to get the a.c. fixed because he chewed through the wires.

Against my better judgement, I had to return the dog to a pet shelter with a bag of food.  He was my first dog as an adult.  I loved that dog.  I carried him until he grew too big for me to carry.  His name was Striker. I did not want to return him but I realized this was the responsible thing to do.   I wish I had  the number of resources available to you on the internet now.  Visit Dogster.

Alright what did everybody think of the top three dog movies.  I expected Marley to top the list because he is a crowd favorite.  Marley is the best golden retriever in dog movies, but he was not the only one.  If everyone can remember Air Bud was pretty popular in his time.  I found Marley a little bit more believable because it was difficult for me to imagine a dog shooting basketball in dog movies.  The next two surprised me a little, Dalmatians are similar to Greyhounds because they have a natural attraction.  Here is something about Dalmatians you probably did not know,  they originated  from Dalmatia, a region of Croatia.

Well it looks like Chihuahuas have a certain appeal as well.  Who could forget the Taco Bell spoke-canine who coined the phrase Yo Quiero Taco Bell.  I never saw eight below but I have heard some good things about the movie.  The movie snow dogs was too funny, but it had too many things going on at the same time.  Cuba Gooding was the human celebrity, if you like his comedy then you might enjoy this movie.  The dogs were the real stars because they plotted against Cuba, so his life was as difficult as possible.

Well I am glad to see Hooch make the top ten dog movies list.  Hooch was the biggest, funniest, lovable dog ever.  Hooch was a challenge and he had a free spirit that was not going to be controlled.   Once again Dalmatians prove that they can bring in the dollars.  The Shaggy dog movie was pretty funny but I can think of more funnier movies.  Guess who made the final spot, Beethoven, Americas favorite St. Bernard.  He is funny every time he makes a movie.
